How to get to Terezin by Train

To those who likes trains, you can take train to go to Terezin. The nearest small village is called  Bohušovice nad Ohří. There are trains that is coming from Prague main train station almost every hour. Tickets are 240,- CZK for a round trip (as of July 2019).

But I don’t recommend taking the train because as you can see, it is a bit of walk from the nearest station to the Terezin concentration camp.

If you don’t mind walking, you can take the train to get there. But why would you?  The bus will drop you off right in front of the memorial.

How to get to Terezin by Bus

Seems like taking a bus is the cheapest and the best way to go to Terezin. The only annoying part is to get there without getting lost. But… I got that part for you! Follow these directions and you will get there easily!

As of 2023, the bus to Terezin departs at Letňany Station.

Step 1. Getting to Nádraží Holešovice Station

The bus to Terezin departs at Nádraží Holešovice station. This bus is not the same as the city public transportation system. So a “metro” day pass won’t work if you purchase it for this type of bus.

Nádraží Holešovice station is the C line which is the red color line. When you get there, look for the sign below.

The sign to look for at Nádraží Holešovice station

This sign doesn’t say anything about Terezin. Take the direction opposite from the “Zoo”. This station has only 2 exits, so you can’t get lost. The one with NO escalator is the exit you want and will bring you closest to the platform for the Terezin bus.

Those who get to Nádraží Holešovice station by Tram or foot… You need to go through the subway station to get to the bus stop, on the ground level area with shops pictured below. Otherwise, you won’t find the sign you’re looking for.

Step 2. Get to the bus platform to Terezin

When you get out from Nádraží Holešovice station, you will see the pizza store on your left hand side.

You are right on track! Keep going straight until you hit the “Information” booth (the picture below on the right hand side with the green). It seemed like shed for storage, but it is the information booth.

It doesn’t say Terezin on top or as a title. But when you look at the stops, it says Terezin.

The bus seats are on a first come, first served basis. So have a seat anywhere you would like.

The bus has an outlet only by the window side. It also says Free Wi-Fi but NEVER connected when I was on the bus, so don’t rely on it.

Step 3. Which bus stop to get off at

This bus is not only to the Terezin Memorial. So, it will stop a few times before getting to the Terezin Memorial itself. At the Terezin Memorial, there are 2 stops that you can get off. It doesn’t matter which one to get off at but from my experience, I highly recommend you to get off at the first one which is Terezín, U památníku stop. This stop is in the middle of the Ghetto Museum and the Small Fortress.

When you get off at this bus stop, you will see the sign in the picture below.

Between the Ghetto Museum and the Small Fortress, its about a 15 to 20 minute walk. You can easily walk, which many people do. But if weather isn’t ideal, you may not want to walk.

The second bus stop is Terezín, aut.nádr which is very close to the Ghetto Museum. If you missed the first stop, don’t worry. You just need to get off at the second stop instead!

Step 4. On your way back

You also need to know what time your bus returns home as well. There were multiple time tables that were destroyed by nature or people at the bus stop.

But, I managed to read a couple of them and they looked the same as the Prague bus station. Here is the bus schedule from Terezín, aut.nádr stop (near the Ghetto Museum) to Prague.

Terezín, aut.nádr Stop is near the middle of the big main square, so it’s hard to miss it.

On your way back, usually everybody is leaving around the same time. The bus will be so full that some people can’t sit down for the hour long ride back to Prague. Imagine, after a long day of walking around the concentration camp.

I was so glad to get on the bus from the Terezín, aut.nádr stop, (near the Ghetto Museum) because when the bus stopped at the next stop which was Terezín, U památníku, there were absolutely no seats left. So please remember to – get on the bus from  Terezín, aut.nádr stop (near the Ghetto Museum) on your way back!!

  • Finally, a practical, real-world guide to getting to Terezin. Most of the other websites say: “go to the train station and hop on the bus. It’s easy!”

No, it’s not easy. There is nobody around to ask, and even the few helpful people I did ask (a group of policeman) tried to send me back to Florenc train station. I gave up and took a taxi for 1500 but I found this website during the drive. Really helpful.

  • As I website possessor I believe the content matter here is rattling excellent , appreciate it for your efforts. You should keep it up forever! Best of luck.
